Determining the Type of Question

Main Purpose of Paragraph Questions are one of the 7 types of questions typically found on reading 

1. Gist Question - The main idea or theme of the whole passage or paragraphs.
2. Specific Detail Question- Extraction style question that can be found directly in the text
3. Function Questions - Asks the purpose of phrases, sentences or paragraphs
4. Vocabulary Questions-  Asks meaning of words in context
5. Organization Development Questions -  Arrangement and structure of  passage
6. Inference questions.  What is implied by phrases, sentnences and quotes
7. Tone Questions- what is the author or narrator's tone (attitude and view)

Identifying the type of question is one of your very first important strategies because you ahould have a different reading strategy for each of these types of questions. 

In general there are three types of apprhoaches 
1. Check information using key words and reading around it
2. Read for main ideas of each paragraph and make brief summary notes
3. Look for a collection of clues
