a)Select main idea/Topic Example wording: •What is the main point of the passage •What topic is discussed in the passage b)Purpose of passage Example wording: •What is the author communicating in the passage? •Why did the author write the passage/ c)Select best title Example wording: •What would be the best title of the passage What is the best choice correct answer? •The best choice typically...: 1.Is most relevant 2.Covers more passage ground than the others 3.Is not too specific or general •Often but not always, the correct answer can be best confirmed in the found in the 1st paragraph but one has to check that the rest of it has a connection to the main idea •These main idea/title/structure/ purpose questions are a;l 'gist' questions meaning it is a broad assessment. Therefore, they end to be deduction at the point questions Strategies 1.Read first paragraph – it is often crucial for main idea 2.Structure passage for topics & order before MCQs 3.Look for author’s tone or attitude 4.Follow this process in this order A. Try to take out answers that express something not there B. Take out those easily too specific C. Take out those not so easily specific D. Take out those too general If it takes longer than 3 seconds to deduct, keep it open. It’s often not the best answer but the least bad answer
