CELPIP Speaking Task 2: Talking About a Personal Experience
Pre-Speaking Tips for CELPIP Speaking Task 2 (Talking About a Personal Experience)
Talk about a time you learned something new. Maybe it was a skill, a lesson, or an important realization. What happened, and why was it meaningful to you? Preparation Time: 30 seconds Recording Time: 60 seconds Model Answer (~180 words – 60 seconds) "Well, I’ve learned many things in life, but one experience that stands out is when I learned to swim as an adult. It was two summers ago at a local pool, and I was quite nervous because I’d always feared deep water. At first, my instructor taught me basic floating techniques. I remember gripping the edge tightly, but she encouraged me to relax. After a few tries, I managed to float on my back—it felt amazing! The biggest challenge came when I had to swim without support. My heart raced as I pushed off, but I focused on my breathing and strokes. To my surprise, I swam a few meters! I was so proud of myself. By the end of the month, I could swim a full lap. It was a huge achievement for me because I’d always thought I’d never learn. This experience taught me that with patience and practice, I can overcome my fears. Now, I even go swimming regularly, and it’s become one of my favorite activities. That experience truly changed my perspective on trying new things."
