Pre-Speaking Tips for CELPIP Speaking Task 1 (Giving Advice)
CELPIP Speaking Task 1: Giving Advice Situation: A friend is buying her first house. Give her advice on how she should choose a good house to live in. You could advise about the size, number of rooms, location, or anything else you think is important. Preparation Time: 30 seconds Recording Time: 90 seconds Model Answer (180 words – 90 seconds) "Hi Sarah! I heard you’re buying your first house—that’s so exciting! I’d love to share some advice to help you make the best choice. First, I recommend looking for a house in a safe and convenient location. The reason I say this is because a good neighborhood will affect your daily life—easy access to schools, grocery stores, and public transport can save you time and stress. If you choose a well-connected area, you’ll probably enjoy living there long-term. Another thing I’d advise is checking the house layout carefully. Why I think this is important is because the number of bedrooms, storage space, and natural light can really impact your comfort. By doing that, you’ll avoid regrets later, especially if your family grows or you need a home office. Just make sure you get a professional home inspection before buying. Hidden issues like plumbing or electrical problems can be costly to fix later. Good luck with your search, and feel free to ask me if you need more help!" Post-Speaking Assessment & Reflection Self-Assessment Checklist: ✔ Did I introduce myself in a friendly way? ✔ Did I give two clear recommendations with reasons and consequences? ✔ Did I include a reminder or extra tip? ✔ Was my conclusion polite and encouraging? ✔ Did I speak naturally without long pauses? ✔ Did I stay within 90 seconds?
