The number of immigrants and international students now residing in Ottawa Gatineau has risen considerably and the relatively new CELPIP test, developed in Vancouver, is gaining ground. The distance of Alymer should not deter you from your quest to become well prepared for the CELPIP.

Issues Important To Determine Whether CELPIP Is The Test For You

CELPIP is a new test but it is a well developed and professional exam and there are 2 testing locations in Ottawa. Like any standardized test you need to see if it fits you as an individual. For example:

1. Am I comfortable with computerized tests?

2. Do I like multiple choice format?

3. Do I mind a progressive test? (i.e. starts easy and gets harder)

4. Is budget important? (CELPIP is cheaper)

Home Tutoring

Outside of the Home Tutoring

Taking Classes

There are few establishments that run CELPIP classes and none that offers accredited CELPIP programs. The closest place to take an accredited program would be in Montreal but there is an unaccredited course at GEOS for a very pricey $2200 for 120 hours. Check the dates and times carefully to see whether it fits your schedule.

Self-Study

Self-studying CELPIP in Ottawa is difficult but quite possible. I have posted information on the CELPIP exam and you can visit for study tips, strategies, skills and topics and also current exams. Both of these are in Chinese but you can translate them and they do give some very interesting information and practice

Test Taking

The nearest center authorized to give the exam is Algonquin College and there is also one at the University of Ottawa as well. Locations are posted here and testing times and dates are posted on this site but to double check that there have been no changes, go into it from the official CELPIP website.
