English 12, 11 and 10

English 12, 11, and 10 classes are structured around the variety of ways to read and respond to different literary forms. Most teachers will stress the importance of critical thinking analysis while reading, but they will also stress the various ways to read a poem/short story/ article or essay for such elements as imagery, symbolism, mood/ tone, irony, point of view and structure. In addition, students are trained to write expository essays and develop deeper narrative techniques in their compositions. Finally literary tools and devices are learned and students are trained to apply them in this analysis.

In many ways, English 10,11, 12 are similar. One can almost look at English 10, 11, and 12 as part 1, 2 and 3 respectively as the process is similar, but more is demanded from students each year. For example, a synthesis essay in grade 12 would expect to be more comprehensive and professionally done than one in grade 11.
