IELTS Test Locations in Ottawa (Central)
Unlike SAT, SSAT and TOEFL, you can apply for an IELTS test directly at the various locations that offer it, so direct contact is possible or you can register online at the official website first and then submit your application to the direct institution later. Remember 3 points:
- IELTS is jointly is jointly owned by British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language but the British Council and IDP are competing organisations. For example, IDP will only advertise their testing centers so to get the full list confrimed you need to go to the official site.
- Testing Centers can have different prices and rules. They may also offer free preparation classes so do shop around. in Ottawa most centers charge the same but if you decide to take it in another city you may find a different price. For example a test in Kingston is $319
- IDP and British Council use the same testing material and examiners receive the same training so any difference in testing centers will be in terms of testing facilities such as whether there are headphones, clocks, appropriate spacing. The quality of the examiners is not a center by center issue. A lot of the facility requirements are regulated by the IDP and British Council but shop around anyways. You have the right to know the details about how you are tested before you register.
- A testing center is not always the same as the test venue location. For example, the Costenaga College is a testing center but its venue is at the University Ottawa and administered through the British Council. Welcome to the IELTS layer of confusion.
According to the official IELTS website there are 4 centers in the Ottawa area that that administer the IELTS test in Ottawa and you will find them listed below. With other exams, such as TOEFL and SAT, the testing center that you choose doesn’t really matter. However, many examinees and students have informed me that the center you choose does make a difference, but it is hard to know the role the invigilator or the assessor has on a person’s score and as I mentioned above examiners are all trained in the same way so any difference is more to do with the skill of the examiner rather than the center itself. However, it is not a bad idea to ask about the space of the rooms and even small issues such as noise and size and position of the clocks can make a difference to your performance.
For dates, times and fees see the IELTS Ottawa dates and fees page. Contact the official IELTS page for details on how to register. The following are the centers administering the test in Ottawa. Note that these centers are arranged from the cheapest to the most expensive and I have made a few comments about how to get there and any extra services the center offers. To find out times and dates quickly go to our page on Ottawa IELTS Times and Dates. The IELTS official page will explain to you how to obtain the application and how to apply.

I am not quite sure why this testing center lists their price without taxes but it works out more expensive for the paper based and slightly ;ess expensive for the computer based test. Booking through the British Council allows you to take Road to IELTS, a comprehensive e-learning and online assessment tool that includes 30 hours of FREE online tuition It also includes 100 hours of interactive activities, how-to videos from British Council experts, hints and tips on typical questions and downloadable practice tests for IELTS. I could not see any group class courses offered by St Paul. The location of the testing center is probably the most convenient for those living in Ottawa central. Just get on Ottawa 64 and then Main street and you are there.
