TPS - Online LPI Tutoring
TPS has been conducting classes successfully throughout the year. The demand for one-on-one home tutoring in LPI has grown more than any other test area for a number of reasons. LPI is fast becoming mandatory for many 1st year UBC and SFU students who wish to carry onto the second year and it is a growing requirement for a number of professions besides just Real Estate Agencies. Despite the fact that preparation courses are offered at a number of institutions, they are often not appropriately targeted to students who are on a tight time deadline. The important issue for any student is the quality of instruction. You should demand that your teacher is both an expert on the test and knows the issues of foreign language learners for academic tests. You are investing hard earned money and time and should not put your future in jeopardy with those who have little to no qualifications at teaching LPI.
LPI online tutors hold lessons for 1-2 hours at $50/hr and $100/lesson. All classes must be paid in advance.
LPI tutorials are a bit different from other tests such as TOEFL or IELTS for the following reasons

LPI tutorials are a bit different from other tests such as TOEFL or IELTS for the following reasons
- LPI is so heavily weighted in writing. For this reason, expect a strong component of your lessons on the construction of an essay.
- LPI does allow enough time for writing drafts. This means that editing skills are important and must be developed in any good quality course.
- LPI does have a grammar component. It is not named as grammar but the Sentence Structure section as well as the English Usage section are both grammar tests.
Issues to Consider
Despite the fact that we always welcome new business at TPS, we actually do want you to think carefully before deciding to do tutorials despite the desperate situation you might be in to get started. There are a number of issues to think about beforehand:
1) How well do I know this test?
LPI is very different from other standardized tests and it has a few features such as the writing section for 3 line summaries that may appear a bit weird. Your result will be heavily dependent on the essay, so look at the types of questions that have been asked and the time and scoring standards. You do not want to waste precious time and ultimately money having a tutor explain the features of the test when what you really want are the skills and strategies for success.
2) How would I rate my current writing skill?
How often have you been doing essays and what are my strengths and weaknesses? You may wish to do an essay first before approaching a tutor and show it to the tutor to gauge a level.
3) How much self-study time can I afford?
To do well in LPI, you simply must do a lot of writing. You must determine how you will fit this into your busy schedule or otherwise you are setting up for failure. Simply put, TPS prospers when you pass your LPI exams, so we would rather you be ready to do a lot of work than take a student who is not prepared to commit.
