1) Confirm Whether You Need the SAT
While we appreciate your business, we want to ensure that the SAT is the right test for your goals. Ask yourself:
- Is attending a U.S. college or university part of your desired career path?
- Does your target school actually require the SAT? Many institutions have adopted test-optional policies, meaning the SAT may not be necessary.
- Are there alternative tests, such as the ACT, that might better suit your strengths or career aspirations?
- Are you certain about studying in the U.S., or would you prefer to pursue your education locally in Toronto? Some students feel pressured by family expectations to attend Ivy League schools but may ultimately decide to stay closer to home.
Before starting your preparation, take the time to familiarize yourself with the SAT. You can research the test on our TPS SAT site and take a few of the sample SAT exams recommended by TPS. This will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses, allowing you to have a productive discussion with your tutor about the areas you want to focus on.
3) Plan Your Study Schedule:
Consider your availability and create a realistic study plan. Ask yourself:
- How long do you want to study for the SAT?
- How many days per week can you dedicate to preparation?
- What times of day work best for you?
