Since becoming one of the options for immigration, a number of centers around the country now offer programs but in Ottawa it is hard to find a center that offers a CELPIP™ course. You can self study the materials offered by Paragon Testing however self-studying CELPIP™ using library books or web resources is more difficult, as practice materials are tightly controlled. Few resources besides the ones offered by Paragon testing are available.
Is it the Right Option?
CELPIP™ is an attractive option so let me just highlight its advantages and disadvantages compared to other tests.
Advantages
1. A cheaper test. The General CEPIP™ is $265 (IELTS is $295). The General L&S is even cheaper at $175 and the CELPIP™ Academic is on $250 (IELTS is $295).
2. More comprehensive test. The speaking test is 30 minutes which is arguably a better length of time.
3. Not so much sub-skill integration. For example the speaking test is not so dependent on listening and listening is not so dependent on speaking skill.
4. Often it is easier to book a time in advance. Result come back in only 8 working days.
5. Although a computer-based test, it does allow generous time to do sections and unlike TOEFL, you can control when to start your speaking response.
Disadvantages
1. It has fewer self-study resources available or learning centers that offer courses in CELPIP™ .
2. Not good for those who hate speaking to a computer.
3. Relies on multiple choices.

It is most comfortable and time efficient to study CELPIP™ in your home, with a customized program. We offer preparation services for the CELPIP™ English language proficiency test”. Outside of the Home Tutoring
If studying at home is not your thing, you can arrange to study with a tutor at a location outside. These classes can be conducted in a in a library community center recreation complex area. Please e-mail us a request and we will get it arranged.
Taking Classes
There are few learning centers offering CELPIP™ classes but there are some online courses. The best are those offered at non-profit estabishments and higher academic institutions. Alternatively, you can take the online course put on by Paragon Testing
Self-Study
Although there is still fewer resources to self study CEPIP via practice tests, self-studying CELPIP™ has become much easier since Paragon Testing has now relaxed its restrictions on the production of simulation material. Test Taking
As far as I know, the only places to take the CELPIP™ are at 4 listed, authorized CELPIP examiner locations - one at ILSC English School, Concordia University, Académie Linguistique Charlemagne (ALC) and Herzing College. Paragon Testing is quite strict with the quality of the recordings and all examiners are trained by Paragon Testing, so which one you choose probably shouldn’t be an issue, but check online to see what others might have said.
