How Does a Duolingo English Test (DET) Course Work?
You can find out more about the program on the Duolingo Program page. Starting in the summer of 2021 we will be resuming home tutoring in the Duolingo English Test. The course will take you through all the question types, strategies and will give you guided instruction for each task. We will provide practice questions and have you do homework assignments that you can send in through the PowerPoint recording function. Most programs go for only 5 lessons and cover every type of question. You will be scored according to a estimate grading system based on Duolingo criteria.
Practice Material
There is a free practice test offered by Duolingo that English Test we would advise all students to take first. Beyond this one can look over the free PDF Guide book which also gives sample questions. Beyond this, there are a number of reputable sites and YouTube videos that can help. Thess are critiqued and listed in our page on free practice and tips page
Online Tutoring
Online tutoring can be done by the use of shared screen on zoom or skype. It is advisable to have the same technical requirements that Duolingo will assert for the actual test, meaning a working camera, adequate speed and a phone to time you for task length. Please see our page on technical requirements needed for online courses
Self-Study
Self Study is a bit difficult with Duolingo, as it is a new test. There are a number of sites and YouTube channels and you can find a good list of them on our practice and tips page. Exhaust the resources done through the Duolingo site first. In particular, the Official guide gives you almost everything at once

Test Taking
So The process for taking the test is very simple - perhaps too simple. When you go onto the DET home site it will direct you to a 3 step process
1. Practice the test
2. Pay for the Test
3. Take the Test
I like simplicity, but the problem is that you may pay for the test before knowing the technical requirements and rules. Definitely look at the page they provide on the rules and technical requirements. If you are short for time you can see our briefer summary on our TPS page on the DET rules & requirements
But also I would go through every question on the FAQ section especially those questions involving test rules and technical requirements
In fact, out tutors demand that our students know the rules and requirements because the last thing we want to see happen is the student get disqualified by something the student was not aware of before taking the test.
