Issues to Discuss with your Tutor
Before calling for a time to meet, think and prepare some of these issues:
1. Your Time Availability. The important issue is what time is going to work best for you. Take into consideration that you will want to do about half of your time for self-study and there is always going to be things that come up so be sure to tell your tutor what optional times you have.
2. Your Strengths and Weaknesses in English. We may presume that it is one or more areas but it may be best to take a practice test to find out for sure.
3. Your current knowledge of the test. If you are starting from no knowledge you need to communicate this with your tutor. You can get to know the test better by going to the TPS exam link for TOEFL and then research it. You may find through research that there are other alternatives to the TOEFL exam, such as CELPIP or IELTS.
4. Your goal and timeline. When are you planning to take then test and what score are you seeking? The 'pass' mark for Canadian Universities, for example, varies more widely than with IELTS, so be sure to think about which universities, either in Canada or in the US, that you are targeting.
