TPS - SAT Exam Prep in Ottawa
TPS offers SAT tutoring throughout Vancouver. While many do take it in group classes, most still prefer it on a one to one basis, since students need to work on specific skills based on their strengths and weaknesses. Before you take a course, it is advisable that you know as much about SAT so that you can concentrate on skills and strategies on the test rather than being informed about the structure, content and scoring.
We always suggest that any would-be student ask themselves these questions before beginning a tutorial
1) Is this the test for me?
SAT is only going to be applicable to you if you have made up your mind to study in a US institution that either requires it or uses it to weigh applicants. You can also consider ACT if you are considering a career in the sciences. Often students decide after a few months that they might after all want to stay in Vancouver for their studies so be sure that an American college or university is where your heart lies
2) Have I given myself enough time to prepare?
You need to allow yourself a few months because there is much in the way of reading and vocabulary building that does not led itself well to cramming.
3) Can I handle the time commitments?
Most SAT students are going to high school at the same time and so it is a tricky thing to balance your time among school work provincial exams and extra curricular activities.
It is not difficult to find ways to study SAT in Vancouver but the key issue is making sure you get a quality teacher. Taking the test is a bit more complicated since there are only a few places authorized to hold it. Private high schools do have programs set up for their students to take the SAT since they are often affiliated with US Universities. Self-study is the easiest route and there are thousands upon thousands of ways be it through textbooks or online.

Home Tutoring
If you’d rather study it in the comfort of your home, with a customized program, please check the SAT tutor Ottawa page for availability. Most opt for this rout since the SAT test is very comprehensive and does not really lend well to classroom teaching whereby many different levels are often merged.
Outside of the Home Tutoring
Tutorials outside of the home can be arranged easily and the best locations or either in a public Library in Ottawa or in a community centre. Often there are some good spots at the University of Ottawa campus or even at a museum. Send us a request and we’ll set it up for you.
Taking Classes
Many language schools, learning centers and private colleges are offering SAT. Shop carefully because many use a roll over system whereby students are merged into it at any time so you may actually be placed midway through a program. It is hard to find colleges offering it since SAT is only used for US universities
Self-Study
Self-studying SAT is probably easier than any other standardized test and there is no shortage of free resources. I have always believed that your first stop should be at any of the public libraries in Ottawa and, . If you feel like buying books one Chapters/Indigo carries the largest range of SAT books but they are not cheap. My suggestion is to find what you like and then see if it can be ordered on Amazon under 'SAT prep'.
Online study
There is no shortage of free resources online for SAT. First, go to our SAT exam page and get information on study tips, strategies, skills and topics and information on recent exams and there is also a blog. I have also posted practice exams in the reading and writing and you can even take a mock writing test and be scored for free. There are external links to what I consider the best sources of SAT resources, such as majortests.com, and the Princeton Review.
