3. Life is full of........
2.Include the title, author and prompt. Answer the prompt in your introduction
E..g Life is full of success and tragedies. In the poem, “The Dumka” by B.H. Fairchild, ...........
3.Make a general statement about the targeted tool E.g. In the poem The Dumka, the author uses …. to….
E.g. In the poem, “The Dumka” by B.H. Fairchild, contrast in the form of imagery, tone and pace, plays an important role, indicating there are many ups and downs in an elderly couple’s life.
Complete Example
Life is full of success and tragedies. In the poem, “The Dumka” by B.H. Fairchild, contrast in the form of imagery, tone and pace, plays an important role, indicating there are many ups and downs in an elderly couple’s life.
Be careful not to make your thesis statement too vague:
X In the story “Head Cook at Weddings and Funerals” by Vi Plonikoff, Marusa is the main character.
√. Marusa, in the story “Head Cook at Weddings and Funerals” by Val Plonikoff, is a head-strong girl who eventually gives in to the pressures of her community.
