Online tutoring is flexible for times and can be placed virtually anytime from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm ET. You need to download Zoom and for much of the lesson you will be on share screen mode. If you are from Vancouver remember you are 3 hours behind. A free consultation is usually done by Zoom.
CELPIP home tutoring lessons involve a free consultation at the beginning to determine needs and level. A more extensive test at the beginning can be arranged, however it will be billed according to the rate of a regular class. If a full extensive assessment is needed, you may request one at the beginning, billed at the same rate as a regular lesson. After the first class, 4 subsequent classes must be paid in advance. Every class is a minimum of 2 hours at $60/hr or $120/lesson. The first meeting involves a free consultation to find out needs and level. The Issues to Discuss with your Tutor
The meeting is a short 15 - 30 minute meeting face to face. However, it is an important one. Among the issues to discuss are:
1) Your goal. Are you taking CELPIP for PR, Citizenship, work or academic purposes? This will affect which test you take. For example, if you are applying for citizenship, you should take the General Listening and Speaking test (G L&S) rather than the General Test (G), which is for PR applications. This knowledge can save you about $75. Also, what is considered a pass ranges from institution to institution?
2) Your time availability. This should be clear at the meeting and not something you will 'get back to' after the meeting. What is open today may not be open tomorrow.
3) Your willingness to self-study. Not everyone has the same amount of time that they can allot for self-study but telling your tutor will allow him or her to know the load that can be given to students.
4) Your knowledge of the test and your strength and weaknesses with respect to reading, writing, listening and speaking. If not sure, you can take some links to mock tests posted at TPS.
