Tutor Services at TPS
What Makes TPS Unique?
Before hiring any tutoring services, ask them "what makes them different?"
TPS is a unique service. It offers value-added service that just isn’t found elsewhere in the Ottawa/Gatineau region.
1. We do consultations and program setups collaboratively. The tutor will use his or her consultation with you to design a program. The program is then sent to you for approval. No classes are started until you agree with it.
2. The program balances strategies, skills and topics. We do not overemphasize one over another.
3. All writing or speaking assignments are marked and assessed for free. In a regular program, tutors will mark 10 submissions. This commitment encourages you to get more practice.
4. Your course will be designed by the tutor - truly tailor-made. We do not provide prearranged courses to tutors. Tutors do use the TPS database and prior courses for guidance, but tutors primarily create the courses from your needs.
5. All tutors must be teachers/tutors by profession and are trained and certified. We do not hire people who are only doing tutoring as a part-time job aside from either university studies or as extra income.
6. Our programs are short. Most exam prep programs lessons are 3-5 tutorials. You save money compared to long drawn out classes or tutors that encourage many lessons.
7. We provide simulation exams – full exams or partial ones that are marked and assessed.
8. We link carefully with outside websites and sources to give you the latest updates. The information from these blogs and official sites is integrated into the program design.
9. Tutors will travel to areas that many tutors in Ottawa will not go.
10. While we do have online classes, we do home tutoring and take it seriously. We do not cancel your classes or re-arrange times. We view bookings as a contract

Process
We advise you to learn as much as you can about the exam you'll be preparing for by going to that particular exam under Tutor Services and then the exam. For example, if you are preparing for the SAT, you will follow Tutor Services --) SAT exam.
Look carefully for what the course entails under the Tutor Courses page as well as the Pricing and Policy page. Be clear about these matters before you book for an appointment.
Before booking a tutor, look at the Times and Dates page to find out availability. You need to confirm under the specific course and area.
If all is fine up to this point, contact us at the register page. There, you can either fill in a form or contact us directly by
e-mail or phone.

Materials
The tutor will supply you with teaching slides, booklets and supplementary material. Much of these are transferred directly to your computer. However, occasionally students may need to purchase books or online material from the official testing organizations. We may require this for copyright issues. If you need to make purchases, the tutor will inform you before the course starts.
Other Services
Go to each exam page (e.g. SAT Exam). From there, you'll find links to tips, strategies and practice, relevant to each test. You can also find a pathway to them through the Tips for all exams page. The Tutor Services page will also provide sites for free practice exams. Some of these are provided by TPS, while others may be external links to official exam sites or reputable blogs. Look at the Latest exam schedules page to check when you can register for the next test.
