The following websites give free sites for tests in reading.
I have tried to select only the best high quality sites for this. Many students complain that often textbooks and websites offer reading tests that are too easy and give them a false sense of confidence. Therefore, the following sites give challenging but realistic simulations of the real test
For reading tests the first sources you should look at are the official site test samples of Academic Test Reading and General Test Reading .
After that try some good ones at the IDP site called IELTS Essentials for Academic reading and General Reading. These are as good as you will get and there are lots of them. Unfortunately these tests are often derived from Cambridge so if you have already done the Cambridge tests you might find them to overlap.
The British Council offers a realistic academic reading test and general reading test but only one.
Dominic Cole's DC IELTS has provided tips in reading at
Besides, these are examenglish.com. These are of lower quality but will still give reasonably close approximations
Youtube has a number of good sites for free reading practice. The IELTS Listening Site has practice reading tests as do videos from Career Zone IELTS Institute Moga - India

Free Listening Tests
There are many that offer them but few can emulate the real tests. Listening tests must have a quality of voice instructions and pace that is as close as possible to the real test or you may form the wrong impression of the exam. For the listening test, make sure that you have proper audio head phones - listening to it straight from a laptop or mobile phone speakers is not enough.
There are a number of sites charging you for these tests but for the life of me and I cannot understand why anyone would pay for them when a simple trip to the library will get you textbooks of much better quality tests than those online. Still there are a few that are free and of decent quality:
As much as Cambridge can irritate us, one shouldn't ignore what they offer free and the Official IELTS Site does offer a few.
The British Council offers a realistic listening test in all 4 sections, but only one.
There are others that are equally as good. IDP offers excellent practice tests under its IELTS Essentials site.
Examenglish.com gives a number of listening tests. They are not as good as the others mentioned above but do give lots of extra practice
YouTube has a number of listening test but the best seem to be The listening test where no voice interrupts you while you do it but please mute the annoying music that is played while the reading test is playing. Perhaps the best is the Official Listening Test on youtube.

More Advice
Note down all mistakes you are making and do not just passively accept the right answers and your mistakes. Learn from them and note them down.
Note in the reading and listening sections, the style of the question.
Is it a reading question designed to:
- Test your general understanding?
- Test your ability to extract details?
- Test your understanding of the organization of passage?
- Gauge your ability to read more deeply for meaning?
Are any listening errors reflecting:
- An audio vocabulary shortfall?
- An inability to understand the key words in context?
- A listening trick?
- Spelling problems?
A good site will often tell you what the test is trying to gauge. It usually should explain why you made a mistake however often you may still be confused. If you have made mistakes and you really cannot understand why feel free to send me an email or make a post to our IELTS blog
