Issues to Consider
1. Which test do I take?
It is not true that Canadian citizenship or permanent residence is determined by the provincial Quebec government or that only French matters. English test requirements typically arise in immigration applications. Citizenship and PR are both federal applications and the government accepts the IELTS English General Module test. For citizenship, this means obtaining a Band 4 in Speaking (CLB 4) and 4.5 in Listening (CLB 4). (writing and reading results are not required for citizenship). For PR, you typically need IELTS score of 6 (CLB 7) in all sections for the EE skilled workers program, but requirements depend on your specific PR application program. Please see links to the official government site for language requirements

For both immigration and academic requirements IELTS is certainly not the only option. It is recommended to research all options. All have their advantages and disadvantages. . If you feel you have no chance meeting the requirements of any English proficiency, check to see what English programs universities offer that guarantee placement into an undergraduate or graduate program. You should not ignore an intensive English foundation choice if you know your level is low. No university undergraduate or graduate program can do much for you if you have not yet developed enough high-frequency vocabulary or basic grammar structures to function with the reading and listening demands.

Home Tutoring Option
The most comfortable and efficient way to study IELTS is in the comfort of your home, with a customized program. You are not straining your eyes and it is more efficient and more personable. The tutor can gauge nonverbal feedback and can operate more flexible with resources. There is no risk such as with online tutoring that the reception goes wrong.
One disadvantage however is that when you commit to a home tutoring program, you must respect the tutor travelling to your home by providing a quiet neat atmosphere with few distractions, as well as being prepared to show assignments. Cancellations are more serious if you are using a home tutor
Please check the IELTS Tutor Montreal page to see what is open. Look at the IELTS courses page to see if it fits your needs and the registration page if you decide to book a time

Online tutoring
Online tutoring has become a much more feasible option with the advent of screen sharing functions on Zoom and other platforms. Please inform the tutor if you have any issues with internet connection and try to ensure your router is as close to your computer as possible. Also, please do not engage in other activities while having an online tutorial. If you are further away from the tutors operating base, it will help to close as many windows as possible on your screen.
If there is a power outage the tutor will schedule the remaining time for you but reserves the right to postpone the lesson for another time. Also, if the online tutorial is cutting off volume or images, the tutor has the right to reschedule.

Test Taking
There are several IELTS test locations in Montreal. For information on the locations and contact information check out our site
British Council Centres
IDP Centers
You may wish to ask other test takers about the quality of the venue for IELTS. It is common to read comments about the quality of the speaking examiners of one venue to the other, but keep in mind that the British Council and the IDP independently train the examiners - not the individual test centres. The quality of an examiner is more dependent on the individual him/herself rather than the testing center. It doesn't matter where you take the listening and the reading tests, as the administration of them are the same.
