ESL Foundation Programs in Public Schools
Grades K -8
This age range does not pose a particular problem for students since Ontario provides a wealth of free support and will always put students in their age grade, although pullout ESL support is also provided. English language learners should participate in the Grade 3 and Grade 6 provincial assessments in reading and writing.
Grade 9-12
In Ottawa, many international students will enter the ESL program at various levels and the latter grades pose more of the problem because of the graduation requirements. There are 5 levels of ESL but students reaching level 4 can take grade 9 Applied English (ENG1P) or Grade 9 Academic English (ENG1D). No student really ever wants to stay in ESL for too long particularly when he or she is eager to graduate on time.Students will need to take the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) to graduate.

Online Tutoring
For students that prefer the flexibility of online tutoring, bookings are relatively easy and almost always at the time you request. Please see the programs page for online tutoring and the rates. Online tutoring is flexible for times and can be placed virtually anytime from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm ET.
Home Tutoring in ESL Public School, College & University Foundation Programs
For students entering in grade 10, 11 or 12 you will be given a lot of supprot and tutoirng but you will not be helped in test preparation and marked assignments so if you are struggling or feel you may, you may contact us for tutoring
While often, the foundation programs can assist you well with your ESL needs, duirng assignments or in preparing for exams, you may feel it beneficial to have a tutor to help you get through the many demands. Sometimes you may feel a bit overwhelemd with the program and feel yu need some help. If you’d like to study at home, with a tailor-made program, please check the ESL College & University Tutor Ottawa page for availability. Choosing this instead of a group class is usually the best option since students need individualized help and cannot afford the many extra hours involved in a group ESL class.
