The program offered is a parallel program but it can be quickly adapted to one that is dealing with current assignments. Tutors can be employed in relatively short notice but it is important to give a tutor some time to prepare and to give appropriate information about the assignments and the demands of the current program.
There are a number of issues that must be considered:
Issues
1. How Much Time a Student Can Spare for Tutorials.
All tutorials involve assignments, due dates, and time to complete them. The tutor will give an estimated time to complete them on a homework schedule. The biggest problems can occur when a student starts to realize the work demands too late, when the due dates start conflicting with school assignments.
There is no way around it. An effective reading/writing program involves reading and writing outside the lesson. The tutor does not know all a student's time demands in school or in extracurricular activities so it is up to a student to tell a tutor this.
A student can request extensions and will be granted them when they relate to academic, health and even recreational. However, the request must be communicated before the deadline due dates. It is unfair for a tutor to chase down assignments after they are due.

2. What Events Might Change the Time Availability for Assignments
It is often impossible to fully know what might conflict with a tutorial down the road but try to anticipate what times might be problematic. For example a 4pm time slot is going to be subject to possible problems if a student needs to stay after school for events. Weekend time slots may clash with recreational needs. Thursday evenings are often heavy assignment nights for school (teachers love Friday deadlines).
It is suggested that an alternative time slot be considered in case this happens, a time that will not clash with other events.Full week cancellations are not tolerated and result in foregone fees for the week.

3. What Time Management Skills a Student Has
Is the student a procrastinator, someone that tends to do everything all in a short period of time? Students with poor time management skills need adjusted due dates so that parts of the assignments can be handed in gradually and not all at once. They may need more reminders. It is important for parents and/or a student to speak candidly about these issues to a tutor because he or she will find them out eventually.
4. How Committed the Parent is to the Process
By this I mean, will the parent be actively involved in ensuring that the tutorials are done on time, not cancelled and homework due dates are met? True, a high school student is not a child but neither is he or she a fully independent agent. Often a parent is needed to remind students of deadlines, prevent procrastination and to take away distractions.
5. How Much Pleasure-Reading a Student Currently Does
Research after research shows that a student who actively reads for pleasure has not just a better reading and writing ability but better academic performance in general.. If a student is not doing much reading apart from what he or she has to do in school, the student must tell the tutor so that reading assignments and novels can be adjusted. The tutor should be able to determine a current reading level and then gradually increase the challenge.
What Mix of the Parallel Program & School Assignment is Wanted
Sometimes the intention of the tutorial is to help a student with assignments and, by extension, help him or her achieve better grades. If that is the intention, and, if a parent feels that there is little time for a parallel program, then please communicate that early on.
Important Policies
- Cancellation policy
2. Discontinuation policy
The tutor can elect to stop lessons if a student is not handing in assignments on time and is not requesting extensions.
3. Lateness Policy
If a student starts a lesson late for legitimate reasons, a tutor may extend it beyond the normal finish time but is not obligated to do so.
4. Contribution to assignments policy
No tutor will write assignments for a student and student work must be their own. The tutor does not ghost write.
