What to Expect from an Exam Tutor
When you enroll in a program you should expect the following
You should NOT expect:
- Professionalism - this mean teachers are prepared, tutors arrive slightly early, feature skills and strategies and give time to practice exams in part or in full.
- Materials - teachers will give handouts, study material and either put homework or practice materials in your computer directly or on a USB.
- Marking - Tutors will assign homework and be willing to mark it at their home and send it to you promptly. Do not worry about inconveniencing them - this is their job.
- Feedback - you should be comfortable to ask what level you think you are and what you need to reach your goal. If you need one, you can request an assessment test that simulates the real one.
You should NOT expect:
- A tutor to do your assignments or papers for you. If this is your expectation, you are right now looking at the wrong service.
- A teacher to wait for you to arrive late and then start the class at that arrival time. Classes start and finish according to the schedule.
- A tutorial to be treated like a drop-in arrangement, whereby cancellations and rescheduling becomes a habit.
- If you prefer tutoring outside of the home, do not expect TPS to have a booked room at the Richmond library on a weekend. Libraries operate differently from other institutions in that their bookings are often done physically. In Richmond, you need to lineup as soon as the library opens or hope that there is still one available for a phone booking (which almost never occurs on a weekend). The library does not accept phone bookings until all line ups for rooms are settled first thing in the morning.
Home tutoring classes open only in English 10-1, 20-1, 30-1 and in Social studies 10 Provincial exams. We do also provide training in the math exam but it would be done by a separate teacher.
Classes run for a minimum of 2 hours at $60/hr or $120/lesson. Additional student is charged at $15/hour.After the first class, 4 subsequent classes must be paid in advance.
