TPS - Finding an IELTS Tutor in Ottawa & Gatineau
Finding a tutor that helps you to concentrate your energy in the right direction is crucial. Why would a person decide on a tutor when it might be more economical to take one of the many IELTS classes? After all, you can enjoy the company of classmates and share experiences.
The problem is that IELTS is a very specialized test and, for the following reasons, one-on-one tutoring tends to be more effective:
1) IELTS has a set range of skills repeated in almost every test. These skills relate to the functions of giving information, analysis, and opinions, moving from the personal to the more abstract.
2) Students have their strengths and weaknesses, When time is tight, you need to work on the weaker areas quickly.
3) You need intense interaction and feedback.
If you have taken the test a few times already, you probably know that the IELTS test can give very inconsistent results. You may have retaken the test and found one sub-skill like reading go up, while another sub-skill like speaking go down.
Ottawa residents have many opportunities to study IELTS with tutors. The most comfortable and efficient way to study IELTS is in the comfort of your home, with a customized program. We believe we offer the most professional tutorials because our tutors design your courses and they strive to actually save you time and money by making sure you do a program efficiently - this means the least number of tutorials as you move from guidance to self-study. Ultimately you save time and money because you learn how to approach the test effectively.

Wait! Before you contact us ...
Before contacting TPS, educate yourself about the IELTS exam. Ask yourself these questions:
1) Is IELTS the right exam for me? If you are a high school student, note that many colleges are waiving the IELTS requirement. If you have been living in Canada for over 3 years, many universities only require your high school transcripts. Are there alternatives to the IELTS? Find out. For example, Immigration is now accepting CELPIP, and TOEFL is not such a frightening option (some Canadian institutions accept as low a TOEFL score as 80). Of course, we want your business, but we also want to be sure this is the right test - otherwise, you may be wasting your time.
2) Do I know as much as I should about the exam? Because our aim is to save you time and money, we strongly recommend studying the IELTS content, structure, and score system before contacting a tutor.
3) Do I know my strengths and weaknesses? Often, workers and high school students believe their speaking and listening skills to be stronger than their reading and writing skills. Newer immigrants often judge their listening and speaking skills as being weaker than their reading and writing skills. Visual learners tend to be stronger in reading and perhaps weaker in listening. Take a few practice tests. We'd be happy to give you reading, listening, speaking and writing assessments to discover which skill you may need to work on more.
4) Think carefully of the time you can spare for tutorials and self-study. Be realistic about your ability to sustain this commitment. We all have busy lives, and we need to pace ourselves, so before contacting a tutor think carefully about how to fit in tutorials and manage your time for self-study.
