IELTS is a virtual industry and while finding practice tests is not difficult, the issues you need to consider are:
The first time you see a practice test do not make that the one you do your first test because you will probably just need to use this one to familiarize yourself with the instructions. Make sure that you record and chart your score. Do not expect you will always do better than the last test but you should see a general trend upwards, albeit often in a very non-linear way.
The IELTS is divided into 4 sub skills:
The listening and reading practice is mainly a list of the best ones. At some point I will create my own but for now go into these free sites. The writing exams are links but will invite you to write one and send it in for a mark and analysis
The speaking practice site is a bit different. I do post links to speaking tests but I have created my own. You can record your voice responses for a mark and analysis.
If you want whole tests you can go to the Official Site - there is not many but they are the standard ones you should probably start with IELTS Essentials by the IDP and has some very good practice tests. Another site that has a very nicely organized and easy to use website is IELTS Buddy . It gives easy to understand explanations of answers for the listening and reading. There is a lot offered on IELTS For Free. I really like the DC IELTS site for its practice exams. It may not be the prettiest or best organised site but it really is full of top quality samples and very detailed. The British Council has their own BC IELTS blog, and while the BC is not my favourite organization, you will get some useful practice with it. The Online English Teacher has a good selection of sample IELTS practice questions, which is of good quality. Four others that are reputable are IELTS Exam net , an interesting teacher led site called Road to IELTS (British Council), a well put together site for the oral section called IELTS Speaking and an old but credible site by IELTS Simon
The next list is of IELTS blogs that have been operating for some time and have improved to a state where the quality is quite high and mush is now offered. They are either run by professional teachers or former examiners/examinees
If you are looking for individual section tests click on the following:
- Does it emulates a real exam?
- Are answers given with explanation?
- Is the difficulty level appropriate?
