Part 1: The Photo Section of the Listening Exam
The 3 criteria priciple

​ ​In this section you will see a photograph and hear 4 statements. You are essentially choosing the one that is correct

Think in terms of 3 criteria to avoid being tricked. In this section typically the false statement will contain truth in 2 parts and a falsehood in one part. The falsehood could be related to the:

1. Action
2. Object
3. Setting
4. Person
5. Characteristic of object or person
6. Emotion
7. Material
8. Prominence of a detail

Two features are correct but one is often wrong
​Eg The long log is located above the waterfall

Notice that there are two correct aspects to the waterfall. There is a long log and there is also a waterfall. However the long log is not above the waterfall so it must be ruled out. The correct one is one that fulfills all the criteria. It is often one that does not have even three criteria such as "the waterfall is flowing fast"

Of course, there is not always just 3 criteria. There may be more or there may be less. However, when you start with the 3 base you will soon train yourself to handle multiple criteria at once and find it easier to take off options immediately
